Putnam, Israel
(7 ene. 1718, Salem Village, Mass, EE.UU.–29 may. 1790, Pomfret, Conn.).

Oficial de ejército de la guerra de independencia de los EE.UU. A partir de 1740 fue un agricultor próspero en Connecticut. Prestó servicios durante toda la guerra francesa e india y ascendió a teniente coronel en 1759. En 1775 tuvo el grado de general de división en el Ejército continental y se distinguió en Bunker Hill, pero sus soldados fueron derrotados en la batalla de Long Island. Se le encargó la defensa de las tierras altas del Hudson, pero abandonó Fort Montgomery y Fost Clinton a los británicos. Se desempeñó en mandos inferiores hasta 1779, cuando sufrió un accidente cerebral.
